First, before talking about the psychological side of anxiety, I request you, suggest you to make sure that there is nothing physiological which triggers your anxiety like hyperthyroidism. Consult a doctor and get yourself checked to rule out any medical condition.
Anxiety is a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease about something with an uncertain outcome. In other words anxiety is a strong desire or concern to do something or for something to happen.
But anxiety disorder is a mental health disorder characterized by feelings of worry, anxiety or fear that are strong enough to interfere with one’s daily activities. Examples of anxiety disorders include panic attacks, obsessive-compulsive disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder.
So, general anxiety is not anxiety disorder. General anxiety could be an everyday affair. Do not confuse between anxiety and anxiety disorder.
Stress is a feeling of emotional or physical tension. It can come from any event or thought that makes you feel frustrated, angry, or nervous. Stress is your body’s reaction to a challenge or demand. In short bursts, stress can be positive, such as when it helps you avoid danger or meet a deadline.
Now let us see fight or flight response or syndrome.
The fight-or-flight response, also known as the acute stress response, refers to a physiological reaction that occurs in the presence of something that is terrifying, either mentally or physically. The response is triggered by the release of hormones that prepare your body to either stay or deal with a threat or to run away to safety.
What Happens During the Fight-or-Flight Response?
In response to acute stress, the body’s sympathetic nervous system is activated due to the sudden release of hormones like adrenaline.
The fight-or-flight response can happen in the face of an imminent physical danger (such as encountering a growling dog during your morning jog) or as a result of a more psychological threat (such as preparing to give a big presentation at school or work).
