Aroha (love) is the key. Bipolar, trauma, grief processing. Creative expression.

My name is Xanthe Wyse. My pages on Facebook are Pet Purpose, Soar Purpose, Bipolar Courage. I have been diagnosed with bipolar 1 disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and social anxiety disorder.

I have been sharing some of my story on video. Some aspects I am not able to share details of and I have barely scratched the surface. I hope though that I have given some insight into what it is like to have the conditions that I have been diagnosed with and also how creativity has enabled me to process and express emotions, even though I have shut them down most of the time because they are too intense.

I found out that actress Nancy Brunning died this morning. A cousin also died yesterday. They were both similar ages to me. I feel like I need to focus on my writing, to get my novels Pet Purpose and Soar Purpose. So my stories actually take flight before my time is up. A very challenging goal such as writing a novel has helped keep me going. A sense of meaning and purpose. I will be talking less on videos as I go back to writing. I also have enough art for a second art exhibition, so hope to do that next year.

Aroha is the name of the mother figure in my novels. Aroha means ‘love’ in Maori. Heni has a complicated relationship with her mother. All the characters are composite characters. I did some processing when I mentioned her. Felt very emotional and shed some tears. I have been processing both recording the videos and watching them back. Writing, painting and other forms of creative expression also have helped me process.
