Banged Up In Wales Part 2 – Paul Bonning

Former Police Inspector Paul Bonning, who served 30 years in the Metropolitan Police before moving to Dyfed-Powys Police, assaulted his ex-partner with a knife and then told her to not report the attack to the Police – adding that he knew ‘people high up in the force.’

Following their split in January 2019, his ex told the Police what had happened and that she told staff at Haverfordwest’s Withybush Hospital that she had fallen over, but staff weren’t happy with the explanation and alerted the Police. During his first arrest, Bonning gave a ‘no comment’ interview to police, the woman did not make a complaint of an assault, and no further action was taken.

At his trial, it was revealed that Bonning had been ‘burnt out’ and had been suffering from stress and depression and potentially from post-traumatic stress disorder, and for the first time in his life had been drinking to excess.

As an example, Bonning was the lead Inspector on this case: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-mid-wales-12621952

Bonning avoided going to Prison, receiving a suspended sentence, but lost his good name and reputation as a result.

As there is no photograph of Bonning, I have posted a Stock Photo instead.
