Today, you can find Bruce Berger and his wife Joan enjoying life at their home in Tuscaloosa County with their four legged companion, Gretchen.
Like so many veterans, Bruce Berger has been living with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. In his case, for half a century.
“I went over as an infantryman, but I was assigned when I got there to the casualty branch for the 101st Airborn Division in northern Vietnam,” Berger said.
He wound up being the next of kin editor, he said, and wrote hundreds of sympathy letters to the families of soldiers who died in his division.
