The initiative originated in the United States in 2018. The goal of Project Enlist is to accelerate critical research on traumatic brain injury (TBI), chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in military veterans. Since the scientific understanding of TBI and related disorders, such as CTE and PTSD, is in its infancy, it is critical to better understanding how to diagnose and treat TBI within the military population.
Currently only 5% of the brains studied in the brain bank are military service members who had no sports exposure.
Our goal will is to recruit 1,000 pledges and 20 post-mortem brains over the next three years.
Our objectives are:
Accelerate research about PTSD, and understand the relationship between CTE and PTSD.
Identify biomarkers to develop diagnostics, treatments and hopefully a cure for CTE.
Build tools that can more effectively monitor TBI and behaviour changes such as cognition, mood balance, motor, quality of life, sleep quality, nutrition, and medical adherence.
Create effective therapeutic and care intervention and prevention solutions.
