Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Prolonged Exposure (PE) are two empirically supported treatments for Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). They are both cognitive behavioral treatments and share some theoretical foundations; however, they also differ greatly in their approach and guiding principles in helping individuals overcome traumatic experiences.

This brief webinar aims to provide an overview of the theories upon which these treatments rest, the treatments themselves, and the research supporting both treatments. The talk concludes with a short discussion focused on the extent of which these treatments can be seen as complementary tools in a therapist’s toolkit, rather than competing treatments.
