I work as a behavioral health therapist in a psychiatric hospital. The most effective form of therapy we have to date is what is called DBT (dialectical behavior therapy). Learning and developing DBT skills goes hand in hand with learning mindfulness and using meditation to do so. I have seen awesome transformations in myself and in others!
Mindfulness and DBT are evidence-based as being very helpful for healing trauma, helping ease self-harm behaviors, depression, anxiety, personality disorders, PTSD, etc.

EVERYBODY suffers to a certain degree from self-sabotaging thoughts and a lack of self-confidence. Think about the times when you are feeling insecure and/or anxious. It almost always goes hand in hand with a TON of thinking, and the thinking is usually negative and self-destructive. Or it could be about you FUTURE-TRIPPING.
By making meditation a habit and performing it regularly, it becomes easier and easier to turn your brain off and stop these negative thoughts!
However, the same way you practice self-care in the form of brushing your teeth to keep your mouth healthy and clean, the same goes for meditation. It needs to be built into your daily practice and become a habit in order to reap the full benefits of consistently keeping your mind confident and quiet.
Evidence-based brain research has PROVEN that the gray matter in the areas of our brains associated with regulating our emotions, introspection and having empathy actually INCREASES while meditating, and the gray matter in the parts of our brains associated with stress, anxiety and fear actually DECREASES!
Whenever you feel yourself heading down that path of self-doubt and negativity and feel terrible about yourself…catch yourself getting lost in these negative thoughts; focus on your breathing; and take action!
Some of the guided meditations on this channel include ASMR. If you’ve never heard of ASMR, it stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response. This is described as a tingling sensation that begins at the base of your scalp and signals your nervous system to relax.
For myself, whenever anybody brushes or
plays with my hair, I experience deep relaxation to the point where I can easily fall asleep at that moment. For others the sound of a hair dryer, light finger tapping, the sound of rain, etc., can trigger the ASMR response. This is the gist of what ASMR is and how it works. It very helpful for insomniacs. The guided meditations on my channel are sometimes whispered and at other times include the sound of rain in the background of the meditation to hopefully induce an ASMR reaction. You will also frequently learn about the importance of breath work, grounding, body scans, etc. Basically, grounding is a technique that can help one achieve mindfulness.
*Mindfulness, as a reminder, is a mental state where one achieves focus on the present moment. Mindfulness allows you to be calm and notice and accept your feelings, body sensations and thoughts without passing any judgment. Grounding is a way to draw attention to returning to the present moment by focusing on breath work and “grounding” oneself to the earth so to speak.
This is very helpful for folks with ongoing stress and/or past trauma. This is great for people who suffer with PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). If your mind and body keep going back to a place of trauma or whatever stress it is you’re experiencing, it is unpleasant and can lead to the development of anxiety and unwanted behaviors.
This type of meditation can help you to get back into the present moment and stay there. With practice this becomes easier. Please feel free to ask me any questions.
