It has helped hundreds of thousands of people have been suffering from various forms of trauma for many years. While guided by one’s counselor, a patient is then asked to identify situations and experiences that have been hurtful and by simultaneously focusing on a digital dot which moves in both directionsat varying speeds. A device that gives off a vibration in each hand can also be used with the same principle. In short, a non-painful stimulus has been created via the rapid eye movement which also resembles the REM phase of sleep. The analogy that I am sharing resembles how as a Holistic Doc, one of my goals is to decrease pain for my patients- pain is often caused by compression (which can involve nerve roots and spinal nerves) and limited space in a region. Decompression is warranted and this is accomplished via spinal manipulations and therpeutic taping. EMDR is back by significant evidence-based research that is current. I highly recommend it and please feel free to ask your counselor about it.
