How combat medic Talissa Papamau is using her PTSD experience to help other veterans | The Drum

For many veterans, this year’s Anzac Day was particularly poignant.

There is the recent decision to withdraw troops from Afghanistan, ending our longest ever war. 39,000 Australians were deployed there over the 20-year campaign. Then there’s the announcement of a royal commission into veteran suicides, shining a light on the mental health crisis that has touched generations of Defence personnel.

Among them is former army medic Talissa Papamau. She experienced PTSD after serving in Afghanistan, which pushed her to form social media channel Modern Soldier to help others in her situation.

She spoke to The Drum’s Stephanie Boltje.
