Stressed out? Mindfulness meditation could help you cope, reframe, and reset.
Neil D’Astolfo, a meditation instructor at MNDFL in New York City, explains how there are two kinds of mindfulness meditation: concentration and contemplation.
Concentration is about taking awareness from thoughts and placing them on a specific object. Contemplation is about taking the awareness and engaging with thoughts or emotions.
Beyond reducing stress, mindfulness meditation can be good for your overall mental health. Research from Harvard Medical School shows that a meditation practice can reduce anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
