Trauma has a profound effect on the brain and body. Studies have shown that Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) affects the functions of the brain in many ways, especially showing an increase in cortisol and norepinephrine (two neurochemical systems) as a response to stress. In this video I will explain the 3 areas of the brain trauma impacts. The amygdala, hippocampus, and the medial prefrontal cortex are impacted the most. All three areas play a role in regulating emotions and responding to the emotion of fear.
