Impact of sexual trauma and bipolar disorder on relationships

I have been diagnosed with bipolar 1 disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) from 2 sexual traumas.

In this video, I briefly discuss the some of the way sexual trauma and bipolar disorder can affect relationships mainly to do with sexual intimacy. I made another video about hyposexuality (very low libido) and hypersexuality (very high libido) that can be involved with both bipolar and trauma.

Mix-matched libidos can result in a strain in monogamous relationships. Being triggered from sexual trauma can also present difficulty in casual relationships. I may occasionally enjoy sex with someone and then be triggered into a depressive episode and not want to be touched, which may confuse the other person.

For me, dismissing sexual abuse trauma as ‘not that bad’ and ‘only one time’ was nearly as bad as the trauma. It has been bad enough. This is one of the reasons I am making videos about mental health. To have a voice. To hopefully help people understand and have more empathy. To hopefully help someone who may be struggling.
