To be sure we are all on the same page, know that the term anxiety is defined as, a feeling of worry, nervousness, or unease, typically about an imminent event or something with an uncertain outcome. And there are many anxiety disorders listed in the DSM (the diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders) and they are: Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Separation Anxiety Disorder, Selective Mutism, Agoraphobia, Panic Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Social Phobia or Social Anxiety Disorder, and Specific Phobia. Not to mention anxiety’s role in obsessive-compulsive and related disorders, but let’s just stop there. Anxiety has been known to prevent us from connecting with others, make work or school feel impossible, and sometimes even cause us to feel like we are dying or suffocating (like when we’re having a panic attack). But could some level of anxiety be good?
