June is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Awareness Month. And, on June 27, it is PTSD Awareness Day.
Going through trauma is not rare. According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, about 6 of every 10 men (or 60%) and 5 of every 10 women (or 50%) experience at least one trauma in their lives. Women are more likely to experience sexual assault and child sexual abuse. Men are more likely to experience accidents, physical assault, combat, disaster, or to witness death or injury.
We spoke with Glen Bradley, who about 10 years ago was diagnosed with PTSD after he attempted suicide.
Glen talks to us about PTSD, what it’s like to live with it, how it’s impacted his life and how he’s learned to cope with it. He also offers valuable advice to those who have it or don’t know if they have it and what they should do if they think they do.
