Exercise #6 – Managing Turbulwnt Strong Emotions

Objective: Processing Strong Emotions.

Imagine you are in a small boat on a peaceful lake. Drink in the feeling of peace and serenity. Feel the warm sun on your face and listen to the sound of the water slowly lapping the side of the boat.

Now think of an emotion or feeling that is difficult to process, like anger or grief. Lean into the feeling and acknowledge it. Be willing to sit with it and really feel it. Process the feeling and engage with it.

Now imagine yourself sitting on the bottom of the lake looking up and releasing this strong emotion or feeling. See the feeling float away in a bubble of water. Accept the fact that this emotion does not define who you are, it’s just a passing feeling.

Now go back up and sit in the boat again and notice how calm the surface of the water is.

See your mind as this peaceful tranquil lake now.

Repeat the affirmations: Today I intend to ride the waves of life instead of getting tousled, tossed, and turned by life’s currents.

Stay here as long as you like and as long as you need to regain that sense of peace, tranquility and balanced.
