PTSD is a word we tend to use in everyday language, but it actually represents a real mental health condition that is framed around the re-experiencing of a traumatic experience through constant distressing thoughts, flashbacks, and/or nightmares. People with PTSD can also feel motivated to avoid people, things, and events that are associated with the trauma in order to not feel the discomforting emotions they tend to feel. The most common of these emotions are agitation and irritability, and of course, anxiety.
PTSD is a condition that is only diagnosable by a mental health clinician.
