PTSD and Fireworks

Hearing loud noises, seeing fiery explosions, smelling gun powder, being in crowded spaces – these can all trigger symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD, in many veterans who have been in combat.

ODVA’s Aaron Ashworth, Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Programs Administrator, spoke to KOKI Fox 23 in Tulsa about common triggers for PTSD and where veterans can go to seek help for free. Aaron also discusses effective ways veterans can avoid flashbacks that can trigger PTSD during July 4th festivities.
