Sometimes the Best Thing to Do is Surrender

We have all been exposed to stories of triumph over tragedy. Maybe one of the books your parents read to you as a child was The Little Engine that Could (I think I can, I think I can. I think I can…. I thought I could, I thought I could, I thought I could!)

Or maybe you remember The Miracle Worker, the true story of Helen Keller who triumphed over deafness and blindness to become a highly respected author, disability rights advocate, political activist, and lecturer.

These stories are inspiring to be sure but sometimes, the lessons we glean from them can be harmful. Sometimes the unwillingness to stop trying when our instincts are screaming for us to leaves us broken and bloodied like Rocky.

There is a difference between taking a rest and quitting. When you get the two mixed up, you can do more harm to yourself and to the achievement of your end goal. I faced this very situation recently. Watch the video to hear my story.
