Talladega Nights' Houston Tumlin's mum says depression and PTSD led to suicide

The mother of Talladega Nights star Houston Tumlin says his battles with depression and PTSD led to his tragic suicide.   The former child star, who played Will Ferrell’s son Bobby in the comedy flick, died this week at the age of 28.  Speaking out about his death, his heartbroken mum Michelle says her soldier son suffered with post-traumatic stress disorder which left him depressed after serving in the US Army for almost six years.  During his military career, Houston earned many accolades as an E-4 specialist in the 101st Airborne Division, including the Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.  Michelle says of all the awards her son was handed, he was most proud of earning his Air Assault wings.   She told TMZ: “Houston received a different set of wings”.  She added: “Houston Lee Tumlin was so much more than a child actor from Talladega Nights. My beautiful boy brought joy to everyone he encountered and made them feel special. Houston fought his battle for years, and we will continue to fight for him.”  It’s said that Houston, whose only acting credit was the 2006 film, will have a full military funeral.  His family took part in a march event in Alabama over the weekend to raise awareness of veteran suicide and PTSD support.  Shelby County Coroner Lina Evans said earlier this week that Houston had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at his home in Pelham, Alabama.  It happened at 4.30am on Tuesday and it’s reported that Houston’s girlfriend was in the home at the time of his death.   Following his death, his sister Hayden paid tribute on Instagram, writing: “I lost my brother yesterday. This doesnt feel real or right to be without him. He was so special to us. I will love you forever, bubba”.
