Mark Smith Interviews New Family Tree Intern Vernon Billups – He Sees Clients For Just $30.00!
The following is Vernon’s bio in his own words…I began my current career path during my tenure at Hanover College where I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology while minoring in Sociology. Upon graduation in 2016, I landed a position as a case manager with the State of Indiana. Although the position provided moments of heroism, I wanted to help and connect with others on a deeper level. I quickly shifted gears and began a new position as a Life Skills Specialist where I spent three years serving elementary youth in the Indianapolis area. While doing so, I began to pursue my Master of Arts Degree at Northcentral University in the Marriage and Family Therapy program.
Education is only a small percentage of success with the bulk being equated to exposure and experience. Throughout my professional and educational career I have gained experience working with severe mental illnesses such as: depression, anxiety disorders, bi-polar, post-traumatic stress disorder and mood disorders. Language, whether verbal or non-verbal, is our way of communicating with one another which can be deceivingly difficult to master. I am passionate about assisting others along their life journey and take pride in doing so through a holistic and eclectic lens. Being a therapist is not grounded in having the answers but empowerment; facilitating conversations that are life changing.
